Thursday Morning Announcements (2-22-18)

National FFA week is still in progress. Today is College/Career Day. Friday make sure to show spirit for FFA and wear your FFA Apparel. Don't have any? Wear your blue and gold! Today's Ag fun fact: One US farm feeds 165 people annually in the U.S. and abroad. Make sure to participate in FFA activities during lunch to win prizes.

Sophomores: if you are planning to go to UVCC, there will be an Informational session today at 2:00 with Mr. Snyder from the UVCC. You will be called down to Mrs. McClurg's room for the meeting.

Congratulations to several students whose writing was recognized as top notch! This past Saturday morning, 13 junior high writers traveled to Anna Middle School where they competed in a junior high writing competition called "Just Write." Out of 105 writers 8th grader, Grace Rader received a second place trophy overall, while Megan Mills and Graceanne Slade also 8th graders received #2 papers in their section of writers. Proud of all our HHS writers!

Potato bacon soup today

Houston FFA members, Eliza Mertz, Lena Stangel, Drew Walker and Morgan Wemmer competed in the State Agricultural Communication CDE last weekend at OSU. Members were required to create a media plan and presentation, take an AP and editing quiz, as well as complete a series of writing prompts related to the agricultural industry. The team placed 2nd in the state with Drew placing 5th in the state, Morgan 18th, Lena 22nd and Eliza 33rd. Congratulations to these individuals! 

Power of the Pen writers will be traveling to Anna HS on Saturday to compete in their annual writing competition. Writers are reminded to wear your shirts, the bus is leaving at 7:00 A.M., and the bus will now be at the BACK OF THE BUILDING.

All High School Boys wanting to play baseball this spring - the first practice will be Monday February 19th from Noon to 2:00 PM in the high school gym. Please have your physicals completed and turned in by 2/19.  

There will be an activity meeting for HS baseball players this Friday 2/16 to hand out updated schedules and Spirit Packs. This includes all boys who are playing basketball and want to play baseball. It is important you see Coach Allen by Friday to receive this important information.

Houston FFA members Bruce Jones, Kayleigh Juillerat, Catryn Mohler, Shelby Ayers and Kelci Cooper competed in the sub district public speaking competition last night at Upper Valley Career Center. Catryn placed 2nd in Beginning Prepared, Shelby was 2nd in Advanced Prepared and Kelci placed 1st in Extemporaneous Public Speaking. These three will compete next week in districts at Twin Valley South. Congratulations to all who competed last night and good luck next week at districts!

Houston FFA members Eliza Mertz, Lena Stangel, Drew Walker and Morgan Wemmer competed in the district agricultural communication contest at New Bremen High School. The team placed 1st in the district qualifying them to the state contest. Individually, Morgan Wemmer placed 2nd overall, Eliza Mertz and Drew Walker tied for 3rd and Lena Stangel placed 5th. Congratulations and good luck as they prepare for the state contest.

Juniors- there will be a meeting Friday during activity period to vote on a theme for Prom 2018.  Juniors at UVCC please check your e-mail Friday for your electronic ballot or stop by before school or after school to cast your ballot, voting will close Tuesday, January 30th.
